English Translation:

This is the third year for the "River Arts Fest" and it was a thoroughly enjoyable event. The weather
was perfect for this outdoor festival featuring live demonstrations by various artists, completed works
for sale and a very diverse line-up of music.

The two day festival had Main Street closed off from The Civil Rights Museum on Huling Avenue
down to the intersection of East Georgia Avenue. There were four music stages featuring bands like
"Orchestra Caliente", who sizzled and "Stax Music Academy" who made it impossible not to add a
rhythm to your step. Some other bands like "Peter Hyrka and the Gypsy Hombres and "Greg Hisky
and the Dixie Whisky Flyers" were on hand to provide a well rounded display of instruments, both
common and some not so common.

More audio treats including "The U of M Jazz Ensemble", were perfect for lunch time enjoyment and
"The Memphis Soul Review" heated up the street in the afternoon, making it hard to pass by without
wiggling your hips to their soulful sounds. In between the stages were strolling entertainers like
"Balloon Geek", "Memphis Rag Belly Dancers and a "live" Charlie Chaplin statue.

This was a juried collection of artists; which means they had to submit an application, digital display
of their works and booth display. With over 350 artists submitting applications only around 185 were
chosen, the majority of them were from the eastern half of the US. After viewing all the artwork it was
obvious that they were the crème de la crème.

This method allows for a broad spectrum of talent; including all types of painting, mixed media, silk
and collage. Woodworkers and potters provided marvelous examples, some practical some
aesthetic, but all were "eye candy" to me.

I am very partial to all kinds of glasswork; it can be wearable or viewable, fused or stained.

Every piece of art offered was an original and some of the prices defined their investment value. I
was able to find a reasonably priced treasure at the "Foxy Fusions" booth, go to the site
www.foxyfusions.com to see my dilemma in only choosing one piece. I will certainly be there next
year.
